Former boxer Anthony Mundine says his anti-gay comments were ‘twisted’ by the media

The former 'I'm A Celeb' star made headlines for his vile rant about homosexuality

Former boxer Anthony Mundine has claimed the media “twisted” his anti-gay comments.

The Australian I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here contestant suggested that capital punishment was the only way to “deter” people from homosexuality in a vile rant following his exit from the reality show.

Mundine told The Daily Telegraph that people would “reconsider” homosexuality if there was a harsh punishment for it before suggesting that paedophiles would eventually want their own rights in response to LGBT equality.

He said: “Because they are pushing these gay rights so much in the Western world, the paedophiles out there want their rights.”

Now, the 42-year-old has claimed he has “nothing against the gays” and that his comments were taken out of context, The Daily Mail reports.

Speaking at an Australian airport yesterday (February 16), Mundine said: “I’ve got nothing against the gays, I’ve got nothing against them.”

He insisted that his comments about the death penalty were directed at paedophiles and not gay people: “They [the media] turned it around, I was talking about the paedophiles.”

However, the boxer previously said that LGBT people shouldn’t be allowed on television so they don’t influence young children and claimed gay people aren’t going to be happy “until they have primary school kids being gay.”

Mundine also insisted that he doesn’t care if anyone is gay, as long as they do it behind closed doors “how it used to be.”

Before entering the jungle for the reality TV show, the former boxer claimed that gay people were “confusing to society.”
