BFI Flare: London LGBT Film Festival 2014 announced
By Ben Kelly

Formerly known as the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, the BFI have announced that the annual film event’s new name is BFI Flare: London LGBT Film Festival.
This year’s festival sees most films fall under the usual three categories of Hearts, Bodies and Minds, with a wide selection of shorts, feature films and documentaries; both classic and new.
There are chances to see some of the best films of the past year, including Behind The Candelabra and Blue Is The Warmest Colour, as well as new films like the David Sedaris adaptation C.O.G starring Jonathan Groff, and Lilting starring Ben Whishaw, which receives its European premiere as the Opening Night Gala.
The programme will also include documentaries about the LGBT rights struggles in Jamaica and Nigeria and queer re-readings of Bollywood classics – and there will be a series of nights devoted to gay boys in horror films, as well as an evening looking back at screen presentations of lesbians behind bars.
Reinforcing its commitment to making the best contemporary and archive LGBT cinema available to wider audiences across the UK, the BFI also launches a BFI Flare collection on its VOD platform BFI Player, and a monthly screening programme at the BFI Southbank.
BFI Flare takes place at London’s BFI Southbank from March 20-30, with Attitude as a media partner. The full programme is available at bfi.org.uk/flare
You can read Attitude‘s full preview of BFI Flare in the Style Issue, out on February 28.
