Arnold Schwarzenegger: ‘My dad hit me because he thought I was gay’

By Fabio Crispim

Arnold Schwarzenegger has previously spoken about his parents attempts of “curing” his homosexuality but in an interview with Xposure, Schwarzenegger has revealed that his father used to hit him with a belt when he was younger because he thought Arnold was gay.

The Terminator star has said that he was obsessed with bodybuilders as a child and had several posters hung up on his wall for inspiration, according to Gay Star News.

But his parents thought he was putting the posters up because he was attracted to men.

“He ran after me with a belt and beat me. I don’t know if mum thought I was gay, or if she just thought there was something off and thought, ‘Let’s catch it early.'”

He adds that his parents visited the doctor to try to “help him”.

“She asked the doctor, ‘Can you help me? I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my son because his wall is full of naked men. All of Arnold’s friends have pictures of girls above their bed. And Arnold has no girls.”

Schwarzenegger’s support for LGBT rights was mixed during his time in office originally voting against marriage equality laws but later on performing two same-sex marriage ceremonies.
