Where is the world’s most gay friendly destination?

Copenhagen has been ranked as the most gay friendly destination in the world.

Lonely Planet, the world’s largest publisher of travel books, has unveiled its top ten gay friendly locations, including Sitges, Berlin and New Zealand.

Denmark became the first nation in the world to recognise same-sex partnerships back in 1998, and has long been supportive of the LGBT community.

Lonely Planet’s Chris Zeiher wrote: “At Denmark’s heart is the relaxed beauty of its compact cobblestoned capital, Copenhagen. Copenhagen is home to Europe’s oldest openly gay bar, Centralhjørnet, whose origins date back to the 1950s; as well as the hip and super-cool district of Vesterbro, which also happens to be the city’s red-light district.”

New Zealand was ranked as the second best destination for gay tourists, while Toronto and Palm Springs ranked in third and fourth respectively.

The top five was completed by Spanish resort Sitges, which is noted as one of Europe’s ‘Big Four’ gay destinations.
