Jade Thirlwall recites Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Am What I Am’ to mark Pride

Jade Thirlwall gives us more than a touch of her love with a rousing rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Am What I Am.’
The Little Mix star and fully-fledged, card-carrying LGBTQ ally put her spin on the 70s gay anthem for Speaking of Pride, empowered by Bentley.
And we’re getting all the feels.
Once again showing her rainbow stripes, Jade explains why Gaynor’s enduring classic is the perfect Pride song.
“It very much captures the spirit of just being yourself unapologetically, being proud of who you are and not giving a damn what anybody else thinks about that,” she says (amen to that).

The DNA singer, from South Shields, adds that her mum used to whisk her to drag shows as a kid, where queens would absolutely slay the number.
“This would always be the final song that they came to perform,” Jade, 27, recalls. “They’d be removing their make-up and their wigs as they sang it.”
She continues: “I remember watching it and being in awe, thinking, ‘Wow.’ Even at that age feeling emotional thinking that this song meant so much to them and really, yeah, made them feel like who they are is enough.”
Attitude’s forever hun – who jokingly apologises to Gaynor for her “Geordie-fication” of the track – is currently hosting MTV’s culinary lockdown series Served! starring a few of her drag BFFs, including Alyssa Edwards and Courtney Act.
Ranj Singh, TV’s Judge Rob Rinder, Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, poet Dean Atta and actor Simon Callow are also taking part in Speaking of Pride, empowered by Bentley.
