Jonathan Bennett’s husband on eating properly after years with rare condition: ‘Is this what it’s like when you eat?’

The actor said seeing his husband eating was like "he was fighting for his life"

Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett has shared an emotional Instagram video of his husband following surgery for a condition that caused him to be sick whenever he ate.

The 2000s Disney heartthrob publicly came out as gay in 2014 and confirmed his relationship with actor and TV personality Jaymes Vaughan in 2017.

Bennett revealed Vaughan underwent surgery for a Schatzki ring – a ring of tissue at the lower oesophagus that can make swallowing difficult and often causing heaving.

The couple revealed The Amazing Race star had suffered from the condition most of his adult life without knowing the cause.

In the clip, filmed at a breakfast outing, Vaughan grows emotional as he takes a bite of his omelette, becoming overwhelmed at how easily the food goes down.

“Is this is what it’s like when you eat?” He asked his husband. “Like It just goes down?”

The two who got engaged in 2020 and were married in 2022.

The 44-year-old wrote in the caption: “This is the first time over the over 3,400 meals I’ve sat across from him where I didn’t feel like he was fighting for his life just to get through it.”

He continued: “Sharing this in case it could help someone who has this condition but didn’t know about it for 20 years like my husband. Talk to your doctor and ask questions, you never know how much it can help your life.”

In light of the support the emotional video gathered, the star took his own instagram to give more information to the fans who wanted to know more: “I had no idea there was a fix for this.”

Fans sent supportive messages to the comment section, some of whom said they had suffered from the same condition.
