Victoria Beckham: ‘Spice Girls were almost named after porn site’

‘Spice Girls’ might be one of the most iconic band names in history, but Victoria Beckham has revealed the group were initially called something slightly different.

Speaking to Fern Mallis during a Q&A at New York City’s 92nd St. Y, Posh admitted that the band’s original name had to be changed after it was discovered they shared it with a lesbian porn site.

“In the beginning, we were going to be The Spicey Girls, but then we realised there was a porn site called the Spicey Girls,” the 41-year-old said.

“That wouldn’t have been good!”

The This Groove singer-turned-fashion designer went on to say she remains “very close” with all her former band mates.

“I’m really proud of what I achieved with them,” she said, before appearing to cast (unwarranted, as far as we’re concerned) shade on their illustrious solo music careers: “We were just five girls who weren’t all that great individually, but together, we were pretty great!

“That’s real ‘girl power’: Be who you are, do what you like and be friends with other girls!”
