Tyra Banks will serve as an executive producer on an upcoming reality series focusing on the lives of a group of transgender women.

Titled TransAmerica, the VH1 show will star former Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Carmen Carrera (pictured in this article).

The eight-part series will follow a group of five transgender women living in Chicago, and explore how their sexuality impacts on their day-to-day lives, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

TransAmerica is a groundbreaking docuseries that will blow the roof off stereotypes and set the record straight as we experience the lives of these fun, stunning women. I am so happy to be a part of telling their fierce story,” Banks said in a press statement.

“It would be easy to focus on the transgender aspect, but this series is about so much more,” said VH1’s vice president of programming Susan Levison.

“This is a show about a group of compelling, gorgeous young friends who are on a unique journey while staying true to their authentic selves. We believe that message resonates.”
