Troye Sivan may have only dropped his second studio album Bloom last month, but the young Aussie pop star is already gifting us with new music after teaming up with Charli XCX on her brand new single ‘1999’.
The thumping nostalgic-fest name-checks everyone from Britney to MJ to Slim Shady (ew), as Troye and Charli reminisce about life at the turn of the millennium – you know, when they were 4 and 7, respectively.
23-year-old Troye sounds effortlessly cool on possibly his most uptempo musical verse yet, and while we firmly believe that apocalyptic attention-seeker that was the Y2K bug deserved its moment in lyrical spotlight, the sight of Troye and Charli dolled up at Neo and Trinity from The Matrix on the single artwork is giving us all the life we need.
2017’s Attitude Music Award winner Charli marked the single’s release by gushing over Troye on Twitter, reminding fans that what the young gay star is doing for pop music “is incredible and sepcial and exciting”.
