Sam Smith has the best-selling album of 2015 so far
By Will Stroude

Sam Smith’s chart dominance show no sign of abating: His debut album In the Lonely Hour is the biggest-selling album of 2015 so far in the UK.
The record – which was first released in May 2014 – has beaten off competition from Ed Sheeran’s X and Geogre Ezra’s Wanted on Voyage, which placed second and third respectively on the list released by BPI.
The list reveals that seven of the Top 10 biggest-selling artists in 2015 are British, with Taylor Swift, Hozier and Meghan Trainor the only non-Brits to make the cut.
Sam’s debut album, which was written about his unrequited love for a man, peaked at Number One on the Official UK Albums Chart upon release last year and has since shifted over 8 million copies worldwide. The singer recently admitted he likes the idea that homophobic guys may be unwittingly enjoying his music.
Smith, who claimed earlier this year that there’s a lot of homophobia within the LGBT community itself, says he is currently working on plans to start an international gay rights charity – click here to find out more.
