Ryan Murphy‘s next project will focus on infamous gay serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, it has been reported.
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a 10-episode limited series, will begin shooting in 2021, say Deadline.
A nationwide search is said to be underway to cast Dahmer.
Ian Brennan will serve as co-creator, with Richard Jenkins co-starring, Carl Franklin directing and Janet Mock writing and directing, according to the publication.
It adds that the show will touch on themes of white privilege (Dahmer was repeatedly arrested but released by police) and be mostly told from the point of view of Dahmer’s victims.
In 1992, Dahmer was sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms for the murders of 17 men and boys in the Milwaukee area from 1978 and 1991.
He died in 1994 at the age of 34 after being beaten to death in prison by Christopher Scarver.
Murphy is the TV and film mastermind behind Netflix’s 2020 series Hollywood. He also served as a producer on the platform’s new gay-centric film The Boys In the Band.
He’s also known for creating iconic TV shows like Nip/Tuck, Pose, Glee plus the American Horror Story.
He has previously explored themes of crime with the American Crime Story franchise and his new show Ratched, starring Sarah Paulson.
Dahmer, who was gay, has been the subject of numerous TV shows and films over the years, including 2017’s critically well-received My Friend Dahmer [below].
