The hostess with the mostest has done it again! RuPaul has won her seventh Emmy award for ‘Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program’.

RuPaul has won the category every year since 2016, bringing his overall Emmy total to extend his record as the most awarded Black artist in Emmy history.

Mama Ru beat out the likes of Nicole Byer (Nailed It!), Padma Lakshmi (Top Chef), the Queer Eye team, the Shark Tank team and Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman (Making It) to secure the win.

“I love, love, love television and you guys make television,” RuPaul said upon accepting the award in Los Angeles. “It’s a privilege to be on television and do this thing that I’ve loved my whole life. I want to thank all you people out there who make it.”

“I want to thank all you people out there tonight,” RuPaul added. “Norman Lear, please thank him for everything he’s done.”

RuPaul’s Drag Race was also nominated this year for ‘Outstanding Competition Program’ as well as ‘Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program’ for RuPaul’s Drag Race Untucked, the results of which will be presented at the upcoming 2022 Primetime Emmy’s on 12 September.

RuPaul’s Drag Race will be facing off against The Amazing Race, The Voice, Top Chef, and Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls for the coveted award of ‘Outstanding Competition Program’.

A matter of days before RuPaul’s win, casting for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series five has begun.

On Friday (2 September), a promo was released that sees RuPaul calling for UK queens to come forward – applications closing on 16 September.

Additionally, the BBC recently announced that Drag Race UK would be returning for season four later this month.

The new episodes will see the return of Mama Ru, Michelle Visage, Graham Norton and Alan Carr as regular panellists alongside this year’s crop of celebrity guest judges including Alison Hammond, Dame Joanna Lumley, and Olly Alexander.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Series 4 returns to BBC Three and BBC iPlayer on 22 September at 9 pm.

The Attitude September/October issue is out now.
