Ricky Martin is seen posing in a leather vest and steel body armor in his latest photoshoot – while rocking a bleached blonde beard.

In his accompanying interview for Schön!, the 49-year-old discussed his new album and inspiring a new generation of Latin musicians.

Former Attitude cover star, Ricky – who first unveiled his blonde beard in January – also opened up about raising kids during the coronavirus pandemic. (Along with husband Jwan Yosef, Ricky is a parent to Lucia, two, Renn, two and 12-year-old twins Matteo and Valentino.)

“I made phone calls to the people I really love and respect, like Bad Bunny”

‘She Bangs’ singer Ricky told the publication: “The kids were very responsible about it – they were, like, ‘Dad, wear your mask!’

“It was wonderful to see; they’re so resilient. It was interesting to see them graduate from elementary school – just them walking towards their teachers to get a diploma with their masks on. It was touching.”

On the pandemic generally. he said: “I’ve been very creative. I had started work on my album a few years ago, but something had been keeping me from finishing it. I guess I needed something as big as a pandemic for me to just really get down to it. I made phone calls to the people I really love and respect, like Sting, Carla Morrison and [Bad] Bunny.”

On his impact on the young generation of Latin artists, he said: “I’m very proud of this movement of Latin artists that are coming and charting like crazy all over the world.

“They tell me, ‘Ricky! If you only knew how much you taught me!’ It is beautiful to see.”

Ricky continued: “They are very honest. It goes beyond your sexual identity, it’s about being yourself, being comfortable in your own skin, and trying to let go of that poisonous information that was put in our heads, through television, or our parents, who have also been traumatised socially.”

The full issue of Schön! also features Tinashe, Miguel and Saweetie.
