New Britney Spears song announced as judge declines to suspend dad’s control of estate

A new Britney Spears single called ‘Swimming in the Stars’ has been released – just hours after a judge declined to suspend Britney’s father’s control of her estate.
The new track – a previously unreleased song from the Glory era – is available on vinyl through Urban Outfitters.
Announcing the release yesterday, a rep for the store said on Instagram: “It’s S11NGLES day: head to the link in bio to shop 11 limited edition vinyl singles from 11 artists, exclusively for Urban Outfitters!”
Songs from Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion and Fifth Harmony are also being released on vinyl as part of the campaign.
‘Swimming In the Stars’ will be released to streaming and digital in two weeks, reports Billboard.
“She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career”
According to The Associated Press, Britney’s court-appointed lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III said at a hearing this week: “My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father.
“She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career.
“We are really at a crossroads.”
Jamie took on the role of Britney’s conservator in 2008 following ‘Me Against the Music’ singer Britney’s highly-publicised personal troubles over the preceding years. His lawyer this week argued he has always had his daughter’s best interests at heart.
The judge approved for corporate fiduciary the Bessemer Trust to serve as co-conservator over Britney’s estate, at her request.
The news comes amid the growing, fan-led #FreeBritney movement, as supporters speak out to demand the 38-year-old is given back control of her personal and professional affairs.
“Do not buy it”
Responding to Urban Outfitters’ announcement on Insta, one fan said in buying the single “you are supporting the brand and not Britney Spears, the person who has been in a long-standing conservatorship.”
Another opined: “Y’all are really going to charge $17 for a UO vinyl exclusive of an unreleased track from perhaps the Glory Era, in the midst of Ms. Britney Spears ongoing legal battle for her rights the day after she receives unfortunate news that her father will remain her conservator until the next hearing. Bad timing and in poor taste.”
Attitude has approached reps for Britney and Urban Outfitters for comment.
