Neil Patrick Harris used a ‘kind of rubbery cock ring’ in Uncoupled’s gay sex scenes

Neil Patrick Harris has shared more behind-the-scenes details of his time on the set of Netflix’s queer answer to Sex and the City, Uncoupled

In the show, NPH plays 40-something Michael who is dumped by Colin, his partner of 17 years, played by Tuc Watkins. This forces Michael to re-enter the New York gay dating scene, which has changed somewhat since his last foray.

As Michael is introduced to the likes of Grindr, PrEP, and dick pics, he has a number of steamy encounters with some dashing guys.

Speaking to HuffPost recently, NPH shared details of how he got ready for the show’s sex scenes.

“You’re literally butt-ass naked, except you can’t show your genitals. When you go into your trailer, there are six or seven options of things you’re supposed to put around your stuff.

“Some of them have drawstrings, some of them have double-stick tape, some of them are much larger — I don’t mind size-wise, but they’re just, like, a giant piece of fabric — and I had no idea what I was supposed to do with any of them,” he says.

However, the How I Met Your Mother actor, well known for his magic tricks and creativity, had his own idea of what would work.

“It’s called the NPH — the Netflix Penis Holder. It’s a kind of [a] rubbery [cock] ring that’s attached to a stretchy, flesh-colored package thing that you wrap around all the stuff.”

Sounds delightful! But, it apparently got a fair bit of use in the series, so props (literally) to Neil.

Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey appears to have had a similar experience to NPH when it comes to what you wear when you’re not supposed to be wearing anything.

Earlier this year he revealed he’d left on his modesty thong after one very real steamy scene in the bathtub. The actor also shared details of how they conduct sex scenes with “a half-inflated netball” playing an important role.

“It’s pretty silly really and we have some hilarious moments, but it makes it less awkward,” Bailey added.

We can imagine that.
