“Mariah Carey inspires the world with her incredible voice and amazing talent both on and off the stage,” HRC President Chad Griffin said.

“We are honored and grateful she will be performing at the 2015 HRC Los Angeles Gala Dinner as we highlight our continued work towards fairness and equality for LGBT people. Her performance is sure to make an incredible evening even more remarkable.”

The HRC describes itself as America’s “largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality”.

The event will see Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes honoured with the HRC Ally for Equality Award.

This week saw Mariah sign a new recording contract with Epic Records, reuniting her with L.A. Reid.
