Madonna’s Rebel Heart misses out on UK number one, Sam Smith scores chart double

By Ryan Love

Madonna’s Rebel Heart has missed out on the number one spot in the UK album chart.

Midweek figures showed that the star was on course to top the chart and repeat the 2012 success of MDNA, which opened with first week sales of 56,335.

However, despite a combined chart sales lead of almost 13,000 copies at the midweek point, Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour reclaimed the top spot, according to the Official Charts Company.

In The Lonely Hour, which finished over 12,000 chart sales ahead of Rebel Heart, is now the first album by a male solo artist to achieve six different spells in the number one spot.

Rebel Heart, which includes Living for Love and Ghosttown, is Madonna’s first studio album to miss the top spot since Ray of Light in 1998.

X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson scores her third UK Top 10 album as Lady Sings The Blues debuts at number 7, while Blue enter at 13 with Colours, their sixth Top 20 release.

Sam Smith scores a chart double this week, as his collaboration with John Legend for Comic Relief tops the Official Singles Chart, selling over 105,000 copies.
