Looking finale contains ‘most intense sex scene’ Jonathan Groff’s ever shot

By Will Stroude

After we bore witness to last month’s cast read-through of the Looking grand finale, filming on the project is officially underway – and if Jonathan Groff’s latest comments are anything to go by, it looks like we’ve got much to look forward to come 2016.

Groff, who plays video game designer Patrick Murray on the now sadly-defunct HBO show, has promised that its feature-length wrap-up episode contains “the most instense sex scene” he’s ever shot – but he’s left fans guessing whether it’s with former lovers Kevin (Russell Tovey), Ritchie (Raúl Castillo), or someone else entirely.

“There’s a lot of sex,” Groff said during an on-stage interview at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco this week.

“I don’t want to say who it was with, but I just shot the most intense sex scene I’ve ever done”.

The former Glee star also reiterated comments made earlier this year about how the show changed straight people’s perception of gay sex.

“One of the cool things about Looking is that after the first season, a lot of people – shockingly, liberal, open artists in New York and L.A. – said they didn’t know that gay people could have sex while facing each other,” he said.

“The show illuminated intimacy in sex without being porny or salacious. Those scenes felt very real and true to life. I was excited to do them… I feel like a song from Oklahoma! – ‘I’m just a girl who can’t say no!’

“Somehow, I’ve found myself in these projects where I’m literally exposed, and it’s felt comfortable and meaningful, so I’ve said yes.”

He added: “There’s something special about Looking. Not a day has gone by that I haven’t wept. It’s been very emotional [but] great that we get to say goodbye to San Francisco and our characters.”

Meanwhile, co-star Russell Tovey – who recently shocked fans after posting a possibly unintentionally revealing selfie online – tweeted last month that he’d read the script and that “lucky” viewers were in for a treat come next year.

“I’m very lucky,” the 33-year-old wrote. “I’ve just read the last episode of @LookingHBO and y’all be watching it are going to feel very lucky too X #LookingHBO”.
