Londoners cop an eyeful with near-naked Changing of the Guard

By Nick Bond

Londoners copped an eyeful on Friday when around 40 professional dancers masquerading as The Queen’s Guard marched up to the Southbank Observation Point to perform a rather unconventional version of the iconic Changing of the Guard.

At the end of their dance routine, the group stripped off to reveal Union Jack pants while still wearing their traditional bearskin hats.

What was the meaning of all this? A new edict from the Queen perhaps, or were they just taking their cues from wild child Prince Harry?

Not quite – it was a stunt to promote the new high-camp E! series The Royals, starring Elizabeth Hurley as a fictional Queen of England, trying to keep a lid on a royal family revelling in drugs, sex and scandal. Here at Attitude, we’re usually immune to these sort of tawdry, attention-grabbing publicity stunts. USUALLY. But we just had to share these pics:

It hasn’t even aired yet, but The Royals has already proved a divisive show among critics. We’ve seen a preview and can report that it’s terrifically trashy TV – think a 21st century Dynasty (heck, there’s even a small-but-vital role for Joan Collins herself).

Watch the dancers in action below – and catch the first episode of The Royals on E! this Wednesday March 25:
