Lawrence Chaney names her dream Drag Race UK All Stars cast

The UK's Next Drag Superstar reveals which queens she'd send back to the workroom.

By Will Stroude

After ten weeks of cheek, nerve, gall, audacity and gumption it’s Scotland’s finest Lawrence Chaney who has emerged victorious in RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series two.

Just hours after discovering she’d been crowned the winner during a viewing party with fellow finalists Bimini Bon Boulash, Tayce and Ellie Diamond, the 23-year-old from Glasgow joined Attitude and Jodie Harsh for Tea Time in association with TAIMI, the LGBTQ Dating, Chat and Social Network App, to share her reaction to the news.

“When it was announced ‘Lawrence Chaney, you’re the winner, I was like ‘WAAAH'”, exclaims Lawrence, who is the first Scottish and plus-size queen to claim any Drag Race crown.

“I just started crying, Bimini was crying, we were all cryng. It was so sweet, Bimini – who I just love and adore – was like ‘Babes, if I was going to lose to anyone it’d be you, I love you so much.'”

She adds with a cackle: “And then Tayce is like ‘Oh! I see how it is Bimini!’

“I love it. It was so, so positive and just so beautiful.”

As well as the chance to create and star in her own digital series produced by the makers of RuPaul’s Drag Race, one upside of winning the series for Lawrence is the guarantee that she won’t have to return to the workroom for a possible future edition of All Stars.

“I’ve have learnt that I’m very glad and proud to have won, because I’m never going back!” she laughs. “It’s so, so stressful – I’m glad to never need to do it again!”

Despite being happy to join series one winner The Vivienne in the Drag Race UK champions circle, Lawrence does have an idea about which queens from both series she’d like to see return the workroom.

Asked to name her dream All Stars UK line-up, Lawrence replies: “Gothy Kendoll, Baga [Chipz], A’Whora, Bimini [Bon Boulash], Tia [Kofi] – they’d be my picks.

“If I was casting – imagine that’s my new digital series, All Stars UK – they would be my picks!”

Now that is a line-up we’d love to see.

Of what’s next for the UK’s Next Drag Superstar, Lawrence declares: “I want to take over the world! I want to be everywhere – just like syphilis!”
