Katy Perry hits out at Taylor Swift following Nicki Minaj spat

By Will Stroude

After months of thinly-veiled barbs and allusions to their very public fallout, Katy Perry has taken a pretty much direct swipe at former friend Taylor Swift, following the Style singer’s recent Twitter spat with Nicki Minaj.

It all started on Tuesday night, when Nicki and Taylor had a bit of a disagreement over the MTV VMA nominations. After Minaj vented that she believed the video for her track Anaconda hadn’t received a nomination for ‘Video of the Year’ because she wasn’t “skinny” or “white”, Taylor took it as a direct attack, accusing the Pill ‘n Potions singer of trying to “pit women against each other”.

Swift’s video for Bad Blood – which was inspired by her fallout with Perry – was nominated for ‘Video of the Year’, however, and Katy was clearly unable to hold her tongue any longer.

The 30 year-old tweeted: “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against each other argument about ad one unmeasurably capitalizes on the takedown of a woman…”

Ouch.

Swift originally alluded to a feud with the Teenage Dream singer in an interview with Rolling Stone last year, saying: “For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’”

The 25 year-old claimed that the popstar “tried to sabotage” her recent arena tour.

“She did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies’. And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business.

“She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it,” Swift said.

On the day the comments were published, Perry tweeted, “Beware the Regina George in sheep’s clothing” – a reference to cult comedy Mean Girls’ bitchy high school Queen Bee.

And back in May, while Taylor was busy unveiling the star-studded line-up for the Bad Blood video  – which saw her betrayed by Selena Gomez sporting a rather familiar-looking brunette bob – Perry tweeted cryptically that time is “the ultimate truth teller”.

Time and your Twitter feed it would seem, KP.

Taylor and Nicki’s brief spat saw a host of stars including Kim Kardashian, Ryan Seacrest, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran dragged into the A-list equivalent of World War Three. Check out the day’s drama here.
