Judi Dench, Mark Gatiss nominated for Olivier Awards

The nominations for the 2014 Olivier Awards have been announced.

Judi Dench and Mark Gatiss are among those nominated, while musicals Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Merrily We Roll Along have each received seven nods.

Dench has been nominated for her performance in Peter And Alice at the Noël Coward Theatre, and will face competition from Hayley Atwell (The Pride), Anna Chancellor (Private Lives) and Lesley Manville (Ghosts).

Meanwhile, Gatiss has been nominated in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category for his performance in Coriolanus. Ron Cook (Henry V), Jack Lowden (Ghosts) and Ardal O’Hanlon (The Weir) have also had their work acknowledged.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory seven nominations include Best Actor in a Musical (Douglas Hodge) and Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical (Nigel Planer), as well nominations for the show’s creative team.

Merrily We Roll Along is nominated for Best Musical Revival, Best Actress in a Musical (Jenna Russell), and Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical (Josefina Gabrielle).

Henry Goodman (The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui), Tom Hiddleston (Coriolanus), Rory Kinnear (Othello) and Jude Law (Henry V) with compete for the coveted Best Actor prize.

Les Misérables, Matilda The Musical, The Phantom Of The Opera and Wicked will contest the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award.
