John Travolta has spoken out for the first time about his mistake at Sunday night’s (March 2) Oscars.

The Hairspray actor mistakenly introduced singer and actress Idina Menzel as “the talented, the one and only, Adele Dazeem” as she took to the stage to perform Let It Go from Disney’s Frozen.

Travolta has now released a statement, saying: “I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought, ‘What would Idina Menzel say?’ She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’

He added that Menzel is “incredibly talented”, before praising the Disney film for taking home two Oscars for Best Original Song and Best Animated Film.

12 Years a Slave and Gravity were the big winners of the night, with the former winning Best Picture. Gravity took home seven prizes, including Best Director and several technical awards.
