Joe McElderry is now a competitor on The Jump.

McElderry, winner of The X Factor in 2009, had been on standby for Channel 4’s new winter sports reality show alongside investigative TV reporter Donal McIntyre.

After fashion journalist Henry Conway broke a bone in his wrist during training, forcing him to pull out, McElderry and McIntyre went head-to-head on the ski jump to earn an eleventh hour place in the line-up. McIntyre could only leap 11.5m to McElderry’s 15m, meaning the Ambitions singer made his debut on the show tonight.

Earlier today (January 28) McElderry had given fans a hint he could be appearing on The Jump this evening, tweeting: “Tune into the jump channel 4 8pm tonight!! ;)”.

McElderry released his fourth and most recent album, Here’s What I Believe, in 2012 and saw it debut at Number Eight on the UK’s Official Albums Chart. He is due to embark on a 50-date UK tour from March to June this year.
