Jedward slam influencers for promoting Dubai: ‘It doesn’t have rights for LGBTQ+’

"Stop promoting countries where it’s criminal to kiss the one you love!"

Jedward have spoken out against influencers who promote the city of Dubai, pointing out it “doesn’t have LGBTQ+ rights.”

Confused? Nothing is confusing in 2020!

Male homosexuality is illegal in the United Arab Emirates, where Dubai is the most populous city, and punishable by death.

Furthermore, according to Stonewall: “all sexual acts outside of a different-sex marriage are illegal, including consensual heterosexual acts committed outside of wedlock. Given this legal context, expression of support for LGBT rights would likely be deemed a violation of public morality and decency.”

And the pop twins, who rose to fame on X Factor in 2010, didn’t mince their words on the subject of social media stars who visit Dubai for views and likes.

“Stop promoting countries where it’s criminal to kiss the one you love!”

“Info for Influencers promoting Dubai!” they said on Twitter this week.

“It has Coronavirus […] but doesn’t have rights for LGBTQ+ so please stop promoting countries where it’s criminal to kiss the one you love!”

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Divina De Campo was among those to praise Jedward for their words, calling them “the heroes we never knew we needed.”

That’s not all the ‘Lipstick’ singers have been speaking out against of late, either. Also on their list: unrealistic beauty standards, the use of the word ‘faggot’ in classic Christmas song ‘Fairytale of New York’ and, most brilliantly, the cult of the gym.

“Don’t feel pressured by workout culture!” they again tweeted this week. “Gym workouts involve more selfies and filming for insta stories! Like we can’t all be Yoga masters and fitness gurus! Get fit for you and not for your followers! Namaste bitches.”
