"I would love to do it, [but Warner Bros.] said no… you know, they're not huge fans of mine"

Zack Snyder has written a “really great” third 300 film focusing on a love story between two men – but claims it was turned down by Warner Bros.

The first 300 film – about a bloody battle between Persia and Greece – came out in 2006. Directed by Snyder, it grossed $456.1 million worldwide.

Justice League director Snyder also served as a producer on follow-up 300: Rise of An Empire, which grossed $337.6 million in 2014.

“It turned out to be a love story”

Discussing the possibility of a third film on The Playlist’s The Fourth Wall podcast, 55-year-old Snyder said: “Over the pandemic, I had a deal with Warner Brothers and I wrote what was essentially going to be the final chapter in 300.

“But when I sat down to write it I actually wrote a different movie. I was writing this thing about Alexander the Great, and it just turned into a movie about the relationship between Hephaestion and Alexander. It turned out to be a love story. So it really didn’t fit in as the third movie.”

“But there was that concept, and it came out really great. It’s called Blood and Ashes, and it’s a beautiful love story, really, with warfare. I would love to do it, [WB] said no… you know, they’re not huge fans of mine. It is what it is.”

Snyder is also known for the films Wonder Woman, Watchmen and Man of Steel.
