A campaign petitioning NBC to make Drag Race star Bianca Del Rio a Saturday Night Live host has begun to pick up traction online.

The Facebook page was first set up in 2010, but has seen a surge in activity since Rio was crowned the winner of the sixth series of Logo TV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race last month (May).

At the time of writing, the page has amassed over 31,000 likes.

A similar campaign worked for much-loved Golden Girls actress Betty White, who hosted the show back in 2010 and later went on to win an Emmy for her performance.

Recent Saturday Night Live hosts include Miley Cyrus, Andrew Garfield, Lady Gaga and Jim Parsons.

Meanwhile, RuPaul has recently hit back at critics who have labelled Drag Race “transphobic”.

In April, LOGO TV made the decision to remove the popular “you’ve got she-mail” segment from future episodes of the hit reality show, after they received complaints from viewers claiming the terminology was transphobic.
