Between dead aunts, getaway cars and the ubiquitous rise of country music, we can’t escape the feeling that the world of pop has gotten a bit, well, safe in recent times.

Thankfully, the space for a fearless new balls-to-the-wall pop girl looks set to be filled by rising star Alice Chater, who’s just dropped the breathtaking video for her brand new single ‘Hour Glass’.

The London singer, who’s previous single ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ dominated the radiowaves this summer after being made Radio 1’s track of the week, gives pop’s A-ist a serious run for their money in the new visual directed by Favourite Colour Black.

Shot in a single take, the dance-heavy video for ‘Hour Glass’ shows off Alice’s incredible moves as she loses control to the storming electro-pop number, which samples The Human League’s classic smash ‘Don’t You Want Me’.

“‘Hour Glass’ is a song about that inner-turmoil you go through when you’re waiting for that person who deep down you know isn’t ever coming back”, Alice says.

“It’s a bit of dark pop bop.The video is a continuation from my previous videos – I’m out of the ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ and have found my lover long gone.

“It was filmed entirely in one shot which was exhausting – there was no time for mistakes – but I love how it turned out.”

Alice, who lists Britney, Christina and The Pussycat Dolls as her musicial icons, is set to support former Attitude cover star MNEK on tour later this year, and she tells us that she’s already been working on new music with the young ‘Colour’ singer.

“He’s a genius. His new album is amazing,” Alica says. “We’ve been in the studio recently writing a song which will hopefully be on my album.

“I love it – he’s the King of Hooks and it’s amazing how he has been in this industry since such a young age and has already achieved so much.”

Having killed it on stage in front of LGBT audiences at Pride in London and the Sink the Pink Pride Night already this year, Alice Chater is certainly one to look out for over the coming months.

“I just love pop bangers that make you feel amazing and make you want to dance,” she admits.
