Eurovision Song Contest 2015 – and the winner is…

By Nick Bond

Sweden has won the 60th Eurovision Song Contest 2015.

27 countries competed in the grand final, staged in Austria following Conchita Wurst’s victory last year.

Måns Zelmerlöw triumphed with ‘Heroes’, scoring 365 points, after a closely fought battle with Russia’s Polina Gagarina, who finished second with 303 points.

Nigella Lawson revealed the UK’s points, with 12 points being awarded to Sweden. It is their sixth victory in the competition – with their last coming in 1976.

The top 10 were:
Sweden – 365
Russia – 303
Italy – 292
Belgium – 217
Australia – 196

Speaking after his victory, Zelmerlöw said: “I have so much to say right now, I’m so extremely happy and I want to thank all of you for voting and supporting me, my entire team, Fredric and David who couldn’t be here but made this performance possible.

“And I just want to say that we are all heroes no matter who we love, who we are, what we believe, we are all heroes.”

The UK’s Electro Velvet finished fourth from bottom after scoring a total of five, receiving one mark each from both Malta and Ireland, and three from San Marino.

Host country Austria and Germany both finished on zero.

During the show, Conchita returned to the stage to perform a medley of tracks ‘You are Unstoppable’ and ‘Firestorm’.
