Doris Day made a rare public appearance last week to mark her 90th birthday.

The actress hasn’t been seen in public since 2008, but appeared on the balcony of her home in California to greet well-wishers on Thursday (April 3).

Doris retired from acting in 1973, after starring in films like Pillow Talk, Calamity Jane and That Touch of Mink.

She also gave an interview to Closer Weekly, where she looked back on her life and achievements.

Looking back, she said: “It was a great trip. I’ve had an amazing life and wonderful times. And I’m happy!

“All I ever wanted in my life was to get married, have kids, keep house and cook, and even though I did all these things, I still ended up in Hollywood.”

She also revealed that she still receives scripts and offers for new projects, adding: “Every once in a while I think about working again, but they don’t make the kind of movies I made anymore! It’s a different world.”

The actress said that she is kept busy responding to “the huge volume of mail” she receives from fans.

“I’m still floored by all the beautiful, heartwarming letters from people all over the world, telling me that my work somehow touched their lives,” Doris said.
