Disney confirm kids cartoon ‘Gravity Falls’ features gay couple

By Samuel McManus

Creators of Disney cartoon series ‘Gravity Falls’ have confirmed speculation that two of the shows’ characters are in fact gay.

Since the series started in 2012, fans have speculated that Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durand were in a relationship and in the final episode, aired this week, the characters confirmed their relationship, “threatening to use the taser gun on anyone who asks them too many questions. They then professed that they are mad with power ‘and love!’,” International Business Times reports.

In a questions and answer session two years ago, the creator of ‘Gravity Falls’, Alex Hirsch, stated that he would “love” to include gay characters in his series, but wasn’t sure if Disney would let him.

“I would love to [feature gay characters] but I doubt they’d ever let me do it in kids TV But man I would if I could,” he said.

Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durand are only the second confirmed LGBT couple to feature on Disney after a lesbian couple were featured in an episode of ‘Good Luck Charlie’ in 2014.
