Dan Stevens has spoken about his toned new look, saying it was “very rewarding” to get into shape for his latest big screen role.

The former Downton Abbey actor, 31, plays a macho American soldier called David in forthcoming film The Guest – and can be seen in the trailer looking buff with his top off.

“It was a very rewarding challenge to get into that kind of shape,” Stevens told the Evening Standard.

“It was a mixture of just training, martial arts and nutrition. I’m not a natural gym bunny or particularly a health freak but I became a bit more aware that if you want to look like that, there’s no way round it.”

The actor also admitted that he has been less hardcore in the gym since he finished filming The Guest, saying: “I certainly haven’t kept up that kind of regime because it’s mad.”

The Guest opens in UK cinemas on September 5, and in the meantime you can watch the trailer here.
