Ryan Murphy has revealed more details about the upcoming series of American Horror Story.

The show creator has remained tight-lipped about the new season of the horror anthology show but previously revealed that Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Kathy Bates, who hasn’t appeared in the show since Roanoke, will be returning.

This week Murphy revealed that author and actress Dame Joan Collins will be joining the cast and speaking at the show’s pre-Emmy voting “for your consideration” event on Friday (April 6), he revealed that Collins will be playing Peters’ grandmother, Deadline reports.

During the event, Murphy invited the Cult cast members on the panel to play a game where they could ask him any question they wanted about the new season except for: “Am I in it?”

Adina Porter, who starred in Murder House, Roanoke and Cult, asked Murphy: “Will we be wearing wigs?” In response, Murphy revealed that Peters would be playing a comedic hair stylist.

Addressing Peters, Murphy said: “I’ll tell you something about you because I see how this is going. The funny thing is, we shot Cult and it was very taxing on Evan, and around Thanksgiving, I was talking to Evan and he said, ‘You know this show is so hard, it’s so difficult to do.’ So your part this year is a comedic part, and you play a hair stylist.”

This prompted Leslie Grossman to ask if Peters would style Collins’ hair on the show.

Murphy replied: “Joan Collins? Yes. She plays Evan’s grandmother.”

The 52-year-old also revealed that the new season will take place 18 months from today and will be less grounded than Cult, saying: “It’s heightened. It’s not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We’re sort of getting back to Asylum and Coven. That’s the tone of it.”

When asked if he would be adding Anjelica Huston to the cast, Murphy said: “[We’re] talking about it. I love her.”

American Horror Story season eight is expected to premiere on FX this autumn.
