Could a ‘Star Wars’ gay romance be still happening?

By Troy Nankervis

Star Wars newcomer and BAFTAs Rising Star winner John Boyega has given fans ‘A New Hope’ (see what we did there) of a gay story arc to be included in the next instalment of Episode VII, due out in 2017.

The bromance between Boyega’s character Finn and Oscar Issac’s Poe Dameron has certainly dripped with hints and speculation of a deeper gay romance since Star Wars: The Force Awakens took cinemas by storm late last year.

And despite initially talking things down, the 23-year-old actor has now revealed the two characters could be having a different kind of lightsaber battle, writes Gay Star News.

‘You never know,’ Boyega told Radio Times backstage during the BAFTAs.

“But as far as I’m concerned, when JJ [Abrams] sat us down to go through the script, it was a bromance.

“But now I’m learning what Mark Hamill said before when he didn’t know that Darth Vader was Luke’s father: you never know what they’re going to pull.”

Boyega told Radio Times he was also keeping tabs on director Rian Johnson’s plans for on his character, so as to provide ample time to prepare physically… and perhaps romantically for the role.

Giving the Power Rangers boys a run for their money, Boyega has already started training, sharing some images and videos to his social media channels as he primes his trim physique for the highly anticipated sci-fi follow up.

“I posted a video the other day of myself working out, skipping, and in the background Oscar is just like “Yeah, baby, go on!”’, he said.

“And people just went crazy!”
