A church janitor wowed American Idol judges as he sang an original song about whether he’d be allowed into Heaven because he is gay.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon spends his time cleaning his father’s church in Baltimore and during a recent episode of the hit singing competition, he sang his original song, ‘Almost Heaven’.

After his performance, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were stunned by his performance with Lionel saying: “When you opened your mouth and started singing I went straight to Billy Joel and then you kept singing and you passed Billy Joel.

“Your range is incredible. Your voice is incredible…In the 11th and a half hour we are blessed to have you.”

The clip below shows Jeremiah’s amazing performance but was edited to cut out the moment he runs out of the room and hugs his boyfriend.
