Britney Spears loses court bid to remove father’s control of estate
Lawyer says star is "afraid" of her dad and won't perform again as long as he is in the role
An LA judge has declined Britney Spears‘ request for her father Jamie’s control of her estate to be suspended.
Spears Sr. has been the star’s conservator since 2008, following her personal troubles over the preceding years.
Britney’s lawyer said the star was “afraid” of her dad, and that she would not perform again while he was in the role.
“[No] viable working relationship”
Her dad argued that he’s always acted in his daughter’s best interests, reports the BBC.
The judge added that she would consider future appeals for dismissal or removal, the publication adds.
According to The Associated Press, Britney’s court-appointed lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III said at the hearing: “My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father.
“She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career.
“We are really at a crossroads.”
Britney’s lawyer added during yesterday’s hearing that the two had no “viable working relationship” and hadn’t spoken in a “long while”.
Jamie Spears’ lawyer said this was because Britney’s lawyer had advised against it.
The judge approved for corporate fiduciary the Bessemer Trust to serve as co-conservator over Britney’s estate, at her request.
The new comes amid the growing, fan-led #FreeBritney movement, as supporters speak out to demand the 38-year-old is given back control of her personal and professional affairs.
