Big Brother’s Andy brands Ryan and Hughie ‘sick’ over gay proposal prank

By Fabio Crispim

We were all moved earlier his week when that Big Brother housemate Andy broke down in tears when his boyfriend proposed to him during a surprise visit to the infamous Elstree compound.

But in last night’s (July 6) episode, the former BBC journalist tore into fellow housemates Ryan and Hughie after the pair acted out a fake proposal of their own.

The couple, who were recently branded ‘bum boys’ by fellow gay housemate Sam following a heated argument, kissed in the garden as Ryan told housemates: “This sounds really bizarre but he’s actually proposed to me!”

As housemates questioned them on the ‘proposal’, newly-engaged Andy seems unconvinced, remarking: “If they are being serious then good luck to them! It’s a very serious commitment, do you think you should spend time outside of the house?”

Speaking to Jackson Blyton, he said: “Anyone can get engaged at any time they want to, that’s important. But when I think about the people who have fought for generations to do what they’ve just done, you have to mean it. Be sincere. You don’t just say it.

“They should not joke and not make a mockery of what people have fought for generations for. It’s not about me.”

He added: “I swear if they are taking the f*cking piss, I will lose my temper.”

Of course, as it emerged Hughie and Ryan were indeed joking, lose it he did.

As he tore into Hughie in the pod, Andy said: “People say it’s a joke but I’m saying if it’s a joke it’s sick. You should be ashamed of yourself.”

Speaking to Big Brother in the Diary Room following the argument, Andy said: “I’ve let this get to me. It does really matter. My ring represents all of the people who’ve wanted to wear this ring before, and all of the people who want to wear it now, and they weren’t or are not allowed, and that’s why two boys playing a prank matters.”

Andy later approached Hughie and admitted that while he didn’t actually believe the prank was “sick”, it did offend him.

Hughie told him that he and Ryan “would never joke about a huge thing like that” and apologised for offending Andy.

When everything had calmed down Andy visited the garden and, sitting alone in the smoking area, whispered to himself: “Why can’t you keep your mouth shut sometimes…”
