Bette Midler steps up campaign for ‘Hocus Pocus’ sequel in time for Halloween

By Will Stroude

Bette Midler has made no secret of the fact she wants nothing more than a sequel to 1993 Halloween classic Hocus Pocus, but as the date creeps ever closer this year, she’s stepping her campaign to get Disney to greenlight the project in typically brilliant style.

It seemed to start two weeks ago when Midler – who has been reviving the villainous Winifred ‘Winnie’ Sanderson for incredible concert performances this year – spotted YouTube star Todrick Hall’s parody of the film, ‘Hocus Broke-us’, saying she “peed” herself.

With her campaigning spirit clearly revived, the 69-year-old has been tweeting about a potential sequel with increasing regularity ever since, and has been intentionally firing up former co-star Kathy Najimy for good measure.

Finally, Bette summed up our feelings entirely yesterday (with a little GIF-based help from Winnie), when she pointedly mentioned the fact that The Fast and the Furious has a colossal six sequels compared to Hocus Pocus’s zero.

At this point we’d let Bette and Kathy loose with a broomstick and webcam and just see what happens, to be honest – and while the Sanderson sisters’ remaining member Sarah Jessica Parker hasn’t taken to Twitter in almost a year now, this post from last Halloween indicates that she hasn’t forgotten her Salem-based roots either.

Who knows, maybe in time for next Halloween?
