Bette Midler sings ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ at Oscars
By Nick Levine

Bette Midler sang her classic hit Wind Beneath My Wings at the Oscars tonight (March 2).
The singer took to the stage to perform her 1989 US chart-topper at the end of a video montage commemorating those that the film industry has lost over the last 12 months.
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Shirley Temple and Richard Griffiths were among those honoured in the montage.
Midler originally recorded Wind Beneath My Wings for the soundtrack to her 1988 film – and camp classic – Beaches, in which she co-starred opposite Barbara Hershey.
Other performers at this year’s Oscars included Pink, who sang Over the Rainbow to commemorate the 75th anniversary of The Wizard Of Oz, and Idina Menzel, who belted out Let It Go from Frozen, which went on to win the Best Original Song prize.
Tonight marked Midler’s first ever performance at the Oscars. As an actress she has been nominated twice – for 1979’s The Rose and 1991’s For The Boys.
