Barbra Streisand to headline LGBT fundraiser for Hillary Clinton

By Fabio Crispim

Barbra Streisand is reportedly set to headline an LGBT Fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in New York this September.

The event is to be held at Cipriani Wall Street on 9 September and has been named LGBT for Hillary. The dinner tickets will reportedly start at $1,200 or £920 with limited availability and max out at $250,000 (GBP192,220).

The intention of the fundraiser is to “celebrate equality, build support for our campaign for a stronger America and aim our focus squarely on continued progress by sending Hillary to the White House,” a spokesman for Hillary said in a statement.

Barbra Streisand has been a longtime supporter the Democrat party and Hillary Clinton, and was honoured with the Presidential Medal of Freedom award by President Barack Obama in 2015. Barbra also wrote an essay on The Huffington Post earlier this year, talking about the sexism she felt Clinton was facing during her run for US office.

“Why is it that today even a woman as impressive as Hillary Clinton is judged not by her merits and extensive resume alone, but held to a pernicious double standard?” Streisand wrote.

Though Hillary didn’t endorse same-sex marriage until 2012, Hillary has shown solidarity with the LGBT platform and released a plank that pledges to use existing civil rights laws to expand LGBT protections.

The Democratic nominee also targeted LGBT voters this year in New York City to easily get a primary victory in the state.
