Debbie Harry on a Blondie biopic: ‘We have a lot of great stories to tell’

One way or another, a Blondie biopic looks likely to happen, according to Debbie Harry.
The ‘Atomic’ singer has revealed that the band have been “approached” to make a film inspired by their music and story – and are, in fact, “heading in that direction” of getting it made.
Speaking in a new interview in the Attitude September/October issue, the star also discusses who might play her in the film – and she’s more than open to the idea of one Miley Cyrus taking the role.
“I’m sure we’ll put something together,” Debbie tells us. “I have to say, I really enjoyed the Elton John one [Rocketman] and the Queen one [Bohemian Rhapsody] very much. We have a lot of great stories to tell, and it could be a lot of fun.

“We’ve obviously thought about it and have been approached. To find the right filmmaker and feel: ‘They get it’ and move ahead – we’re heading in that direction.”
On the subject of Miley playing her, Debbie Harry says: “I think she’s maybe too much of a star herself! But I wouldn’t have any objection to it. She has many facets to her: performing, working as an actress. I really couldn’t say. There are too many variables for me to make a judgement, other than the simple [fact] that, of course she can do it. She’s totally capable.”
Asked if she’d like to work with Miley, Debbie Harry says “I would, actually”, before stating her opinion on the star’s cover of the Blondie classic Heart of Glass: “I think she did do a good job. What I admire about it is, she made it her own.
“That, to me, is the ultimate compliment. Because she understands and relates to it but can only do it her way. She’s got a great voice.”
