Carrie Fisher presents Graham Norton with an Icon Award

By Will Stroude

Graham Norton

An Icon Award for Outstanding Achievement was presented to Graham Norton this Monday night (13 October) at the Attitude Awards.

Actress Carrie Fisher, most famous for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies, delivered a hugely entertaining speech to introduce the Irish comic and presenter.

She described Graham as “manly, intimidating and very naughty when provoked”, before adding: “[He] is also a hero and an icon. A her-con, if you will.”

Carrie went on to ask the audience at Banqueting House in central London: “Why am I presenting this award and not receiving it? C’mon, why not me?!”

Accepting his award, Norton told attendees at the event: “It is a pleasure to be a part of this evening […] you look at all the people being honoured and you realise how much has changed. You can’t want young gay people to be pathetically grateful all the time, but equally you don’t want them to forget what has been achieved.”

Graham has also posed for the latest Attitude – The Awards Issue – and appears on one of nine collectible covers. Take a look below.
