Cadbury’s Creme Egg goes gay with inclusive advert featuring a sticky same-sex kiss

Love the representation - feel any which way you like about the mess.

For years now, Cadbury’s Creme Egg have used their advertising campaigns to pose the question ‘How do you eat yours?’ – and you’ll be pleased to know that in 2021, the answer is ‘with a gay kiss’.

How you’ll feel about the exact nature of said kiss may be a different matter (and may depend on whether you’re a food-sharer), but Cadbury has taken a step forward for LGBTQ representation in their latest advert by including the unexpected sight of a same-sex couple kissing while simultaneously noshing on a Creme Egg.

Yes, you heard.

Billed as the ‘Golden Goobilee!’ celebrating five decades of Creme Egg, the ad – released on Monday (4 January) – pays tribute to all the different ways to enjoy the popular chocolate confectionary, from licking out the middle to baking it into Easter brownies.

The advert later cuts to two guys spinning around as one holds a Creme in his mouth. As the pair lock lips to each bite off a piece of Creme Egg, the narrator declares: “Sharers? Yeah, we are down with that!”

Of course, now we just need to find someone to recreate it with in time for Easter…

The couple in the ad are played by a pair of choreographers and real-life partners: Dale Moran, who has previously choreographed for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, and Callum Stirling, who has danced for the likes of Rita Ora and Demi Lovato.

Cadbury’s aren’t the only food brand forging forward when it comes to LGBTQ representation – Doritos recently released an unexpectedly moving advert showing a dad embracing his gay son’s new relationship – click here to check it out.
