Dolly Parton has picked an unlikely choice of cover version for her new album – Bon Jovi’s Lay Your Hands On Me. Give it a listen below.

The country icon’s latest album Blue Smoke came out in the US earlier this month, debuting at number six on the US Billboard 200 chart. In the UK, it will be released next month as a special two-disc set, Blue Smoke – The Best Of, pairing the new studio album with a greatest hits collection.

Explaining why she decided to cover Bon Jovi’s 1988 pop-rock hit, Parton said: “The first time I ever heard the song I thought it should’ve been a gospel song and I held that in my head for a long time.

“[But] I thought I can’t take all these liberties and just go rewriting somebody else’s song without asking, ” she continued, “So I contacted Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora and we all got together and put it together and they’re proud of it and I’m proud of it.”

The release of Blue Smoke – The Best Of on June 9 will coincide with the UK & Ireland leg of Parton’s ‘Blue Smoke Tour’, which comprises 17 dates including an eagerly-anticipated set at Glastonbury Festival on June 29.

Meanwhile, Parton has recently revealed she is planning a dance album – click here for further details.
