Trans woman raped in bathroom of historic Stonewall Inn

By Ben Kelly

Police in New York City say they are looking for a man who raped a transgender woman inside a bathroom at The Stonewall Inn on Saturday evening.

The victim, who is 25, was using the bar’s unisex bathrooms when a man entered, and allegedly groped and sexually assaulted her.

Police said the attacker fled the scene, and they have described him as a Hispanic male, 5’10, weighing around 250 pounds.

The incident happened around 11:40 p.m on Saturday night (March 26) and police are appealing for people with any information to come forward.

STONEWALL INN RAPIST

The Stonewall Inn, which sits in the city’s Greenwich Village district, is often cited as the place where the modern gay rights movement began. Members of the LGBT community finally fought back against oppressive police there in the summer of 1969, sparking the famous riots.

New York City granted it Historic Landmark status last year.
