Russian officials have banned fans from taking part in a parade to celebrate Conchita Wurst’s Eurovision victory.
The Russian capital’s security department denied an application for the Conchita Wurst March of Bearded Women and Men parade on Thursday (May 15).
“We informed them that the event could not take place,” a representative for Moscow’s security department, Alexei Mayorov, told news agency Interfax.
Mayorov went on to explain that the decision to cancel the parade rested on the department’s wish to “respect morality in the education of the younger generation”.
Wurst’s Eurovision track Rise Like a Phoenix is headed for the top ten this weekend. The winning entry was at number nine in the midweek update released by the Official Chart Company on Wednesday (May 14). Check back with attitude.co.uk tomorrow (May 18) to see where her track lands on the final single s chart.
Meanwhile, the bearded drag queen, real name Tom Neuwirth, appeared on The Graham Norton Show last night (May 16) and explained her distinctive hairy-faced look.
