Black: ‘I promised my late gay brother we’d get equality’
By Will Stroude

Dustin Lance Black has revealed that he is fighting for equal marriage in the United States in tribute to his late brother.
In an interview in the new issue of Attitude, the Oscar-winning screenwriter and gay rights activist – who helped found the American Foundation for Equal Rights – says he made the promise to his brother Marcus before he passed away from cancer in 2012.
“Right now we’re suing the state of Virginia for marriage equality; it’s the state where I lost my mother and big brother – my big, gay brother,” he says.
“I made a promise to him that we’d see equality in the states he loved. He was a good southern boy and unfortunately he passed away before I could fulfill that promise, but we’re getting awfully close.
“This one will means lot to me personally,” he adds.
The 40-year-old also talks about his experiences working in Hollywood during the interview, explaining that he no longer comes across actors with staged girlfriends or “beards” anymore – click here to read more.
