Go behind the scenes of Sir Ian McKellen’s Attitude cover shoot at his London home – WATCH

The legendary activist and actor opens up in our new-look June issue.

For thirty years, Sir Ian Mckellen star has stood proud as one of the world’s most successful and influentional gay actors.

Inspired to come put publicly in 1988 in response to the British government’s introduction of Section 28 – the heinous government legislation that banned schools and local authorities from mentioning or ‘promoting’ homosexuality – the Lord of the Rigns star went on to found Stonewall, the LGBT+ rights charity, using his profile to help generations of queer people to come.

Now, as he prepares to shine a light on his life in new documentary film McKellen: Playing the Part, Sir Ian has thrown open to doors of his London home for an exclusive shoot and interview with Attitude.

“I was offered a large amount of money to write my autobiography. No publisher or editor could offer me a satisfactory answer to the question: who I would be writing it for?” the 78-year-old reveals in our new-look June issueavailable to download and in shops now.

Thankfully, McKellen is more than happy to give the community he has long champtioned an exclusive peek at the man behind the mask.
