‘Wicked’ enters all-time West End top ten

is now the tenth longest-running show in West End history.

The London production of the Wizard of Oz prequel musical began previews at the Apollo Victoria Theatre on September 7, 2006, and officially opened on September 27. It is currently booking up to April 25, 2015.

Since opening almost eight years ago, the West End production of Wicked has played over 3,000 performances and been seen by more than 5.5 million theatre fans.

The show’s executive producer Michael McCabe said of the show’s ongoing success: “We are extremely proud to be joining such legendary shows as The Mousetrap, Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera as one of the 10 longest running productions in the West End. It is an incredible new milestone for Wicked and we greatly appreciate the continuing support of theatregoers.”

Meanwhile, a film adaptation of the globally popular musical has been in the works since 2004 and One Direction’s Harry Styles has recently been linked to the male lead.
