Troye Sivan discusses ‘beautiful boyfriend’ in new OUT interview

By Ben Kelly

Troye Sivan has paid tribute to his secret boyfriend as he makes his debut on the cover of OUT magazine.

Discussing his hit album Blue Neighbourhood, Sivan says he’s “singing about boys,” and discusses the “beautiful boyfriend” he thanks in the credits.

“It was important to me to pay tribute to that person and thank that person,” Sivan told the U.S. magazine, “because I think they were super instrumental to the process of making the album. I don’t think I could’ve done it without them. As far as defining that relationship and defining who that person is and everything…”

It has been rumoured that Sivan is dating fellow YouTube star Connor Franta, after the pair were seen together in Perth, Australia. However, he’s not willing to open up on the matter totally, as he feels that his life as a YouTuber requires him to give away so much already.

“I feel like I share everything about myself, like everything,” he says. “That’s the one thing – I should keep something to myself.”

Though he says he’s “not super-religious,” Sivan frankly discusses his Jewish faith, and how he came to terms with being gay alongside that.

Talking about his song ‘Heaven’, he says, “Writing that song was very therapeutic to me at the time. It was me thinking about how hard I try to be a good person and then feeling like, before I even opened my eyes as a little baby—because I think I was born gay—I was a sinner.”

He adds, “All of those are very standard, but very confusing and hurtful conversations that you have to have with yourself as an LGBTQ person.”

Sivan says he’s happy to be a role model for the many LGBT youths around the world who have been flocking to his world tour, although it has been exhausting him slightly.

“It comes down to the fact that physically I’m very thin,” he admits. “I have the same body I’ve had since I was 13.”
